Mani Monday: Santorini Martini

Happy Monday!  This weeks color was inspired by the spring trends I wrote about on my last Mani Monday post.  I was excited to try a fresh turquoise/light blueish color (my sister Andrea would have the exact color name for me).
I actually painted my nails last week.  We made a whirlwind trip to Culbertson for my grandma's 85th birthday party this past weekend and then spent a little time on my family's farm (post coming)...My mani wasn't looking so fresh anymore, so this morning I decided to add these crystal gems.  It's a good way to extend your manicure.  If your nails are starting to grow out a bit but the gel looks fine otherwise, add a few crystals to the cuticle line to hide the nail growth!  All I did was add a new layer of the top coat, lay the crystals down, and then put my nails under the dryer.

Every Day and Elevated Makeup

My every day makeup routine is very simple.  It takes me less than 5 minutes to put my face on in the morning.  Here are four of my favorite every day makeup products:

  1. Neutrogena Crease Proof Eyeshadow in Constant Copper
  2. Maybelline Baby Lips Dr. Rescue Medicated Lip Balm in Just Peachy
  3. L'Oreal Paris Infallible Eyeliner in Black Brown
  4. Maybelline Lash Stiletto Ultimate Length Waterproof Mascara

This is a really simple, natural look.  Perfect for every day.  I LOVE how the eyeshadow stick really is crease free and the eyeliner doesn't leave a line across my eyelids after time.

If I want to elevate my look a bit, if we go out to dinner or have something going on, I stick with the basic elements above but I add a few extras:

  1. Dr. Jart+ Waterfuse Beauty Balm SPF 25
  2. Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush Tinted Lip Sheen in Boudoir Pink
  3. Benefit Cosmetics Benetint Rose-Tinted Lip & Cheek Stain

This look is still really simple, but the pop of rose and pink on the lips and cheeks add a special touch.  Oh and the unruly hair I've attempted to tie back?  I'll save that for a different post....and can someone teach me how to do a proper selfie?!

Pinterest Hit or Miss: Peach Rhubarb Crisp

Joey must have been wishing for summer over the weekend, because he pulled out the peaches and rhubarb we froze late last summer (I was saving it for a rainy...er snowy day) to make a crisp.  I thought it would be fun to document my hits and misses when it comes to trying different Pinterest recipes, crafts, etc...so here's my first Pinterest hit or miss experiment.  You can find the recipe here.

Isn't my baking partner adorable?  He loves to help me in the kitchen!

The result on the Peach Rhubarb Crisp???  Drum roll please.....it was fine, good, okay, we'll eat every last bite.  Was it amazing?  No.  I think next time I will look for a new recipe or modify this one quite a bit.  I actually doubled the crisp part of the recipe and it still wasn't 'crispy' enough for me.  I would add a lot more oats and cinnamon if I make it again.

Do you have a favorite fruit crisp recipe?

Fashion Friday: Colter's OOTD

Happy Friday!

We are so excited it's finally spring (even though it doesn't feel like it quite yet)!  There is a lot of pent up little boy energy in this house and I am excited to get them outside to burn it off.  The other day, while Levi was napping, Colter and I snuck out to the backyard for a 'photo shoot'.  I was excited because I got him to wear something other than his superman shirt and blue shorts, he was excited because it wasn't very windy out, that kid despises the wind, always has.

Here are the results.

Outfit details: Locally Grown t-shirt (website is temporarily down), long sleeve shirt is from Colter's Auntie Jen from a garage sale a few years ago (she always finds the best stuff!), jeans Old Navy similar here, moccasins Minnetonka similar here.

Don't you worry, Mr. Levi got his turn when he woke up!

Have a great weekend!

Easy Triple Berry Oatmeal

I think you'll start to notice a trend as you read this blog...the word EASY.  As a momma of an almost 4 year old and an 8 month old, the easier I can make things the better.  Though this recipe is so easy, I doesn't skimp on taste.  It's so delish!
Aren't my little helpers SO cute?!
What you'll need (this serves one, but just follow the oatmeal directions for the amount of servings you want to make):
  • 1/2 c. oatmeal
  • 1c. water
  • 1 tsp. almond extract (you could use vanilla if you prefer, but I feel almond adds a nice touch)
  •  1 T. or less of cinnamon (if you're not a big spice person, I'd do 1/2 T.)
  • 1 c. triple berries (I use frozen from Costco, but can't wait to use fresh from the Farmer's Market this summer)
  • 1 handful of sliced almonds (optional)
  • Brown sugar to taste
I like to add the oats and water at the same time, I like a creamier texture.  Once the oats start boiling, add your almond extract, cinnamon, and berries.  Cook until everything is heated through.  Pour into a bowl and top with some almonds and brown sugar and you're set!  I think the combination of ingredients almost give this oatmeal the flavor of berry pie!
That little critter to the side?  Oh ya, he's Colter's berry bear.  This is such a fun way to get your little one to eat his breakfast!  He ate two of these!  This one is a cinnamon and sugar bear with raspberry eyes and a blue berry nose, I let Colter pick the berries he wanted.  We've also made it with peanut butter and banana and blueberry eyes and a blueberry nose.  How fun!!
Enjoy!
